Site opens on April 1st and will run through December 1st. Cabin tours begin every hour on the hour. Open 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.


Second Saturday Hikes

Saturday, May 10 through October 11; 9:00 a.m.

$2 per person

Join us on the second Saturday of each month for leisurely hikes exploring the 150 acres of GSP through the changing seasons. Hike topics might include trees, wildflowers, restoration and even rocks. Come prepared to explore and discover the details of the land that Gene so lovingly called Wildflower Woods. This event is rain or shine so please dress appropriately.

Amazing Monarchs & The Incredible Milkweed

Saturday, September 6, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

$3 per person

Join DNR naturalist, Jody Heaston, as she takes guests into the amazing world of monarch butterflies. Learn how these beautiful insects survive, their life cycles and what plants you can use to attract them and other butterflies to your yard. This event will be broken into two sessions. “Amazing Monarchs” will be at 10 a.m. with a short break before “The Incredible Milkweed” session begins at 11:30 a.m. Admission includes both sessions.

Wild Game Cookout

Saturday, September 20, 6 p.m.

$5 suggested donation per person

Here’s your chance to sample wild game while learning more about local conservation efforts. Goose, deer, dove, alligator, antelope, bluegill, rabbit, crickets and squirrel have been on past menus! Conservation organizations and officers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Stop by early in the event for the best selection of wild game. All wild game used for the program has been donated by local hunters.

Autumn Tea

Saturday, September 27 from noon until 4:00 p.m.

$25 per person; reservations required by September 19; space is limited

Experience the elegance of days gone by at our annual autumn tea. Enjoy lovingly-baked delicacies such as savory snacks and sweets, a variety of teas and a guest speaker. Before tea time, take a guided tour of Gene’s Cabin and formal gardens. If you choose to wear your “tea-time best” make sure your attire includes appropriate walking shoes. Festive hats are part of our tradition!
